Does the N39plus Only Work on AT&T? (Understanding Supported Carriers & Smart Network Switching)

Many customers ask if the N39plus is restricted to AT&T, or if it supports other major carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile.

The short answer is: No, it is not locked to AT&T. It supports all major networks!

Here is a simple breakdown of how your radio's network connection actually works, along with a list of supported carriers in North America.

How the Smart VHAM Data SIM Works

Your N39plus uses a Smart VHAM Data SIM (a multi-carrier virtual network service). Instead of being locked to a single provider, the radio constantly evaluates your current location—whether you are in a dense city, a small town, or a rural area—and automatically connects to the strongest available network.

  • When Stationary: Under normal communication conditions, the radio locks onto the best local network and stays there to ensure a stable connection.

  • When Driving/Traveling: If you drive across different cities or regions, the radio will automatically switch to the optimal carrier or frequency band to maintain the best call quality. (Note: During this transition, the radio may briefly refresh its connection to lock onto the new, stronger tower).

Supported Carriers & Frequency Bands

You do not need to configure these settings yourself—the radio handles it automatically. However, for reference, here are the networks and bands your N39plus supports:
